Internship in Supply Chain Management Consulting

If your ambition is to gain a foothold in management consultancy, you should gain practical experience in good time. An internship is an appropriate way to do this. The minimum requirement is enrollment on a Bachelor's degree programme and this work experience can take place at different times during your course. If the internship proves successful, this often leads to a permanent position in the company.

Julie Mismahl has already benefited from an internship experience and provides practical insights into her current environment:

Intern Julie at the inloop office in Vienna.

Julie, how did you find out about inloop?

Through a guest lecture by Gregor Gluttig in the ‘Supply Chain Design and Strategy’ module as part of my Master's programme, I was able to gain my first exciting insight into inloop's project work and approaches. During the course, we worked intensively on a case study on supply chain segmentation on a customer and product basis. This experience not only deepened my understanding, but also opened up the prospect of further collaboration in the form of an internship.

Why did you choose inloop for your internship?

inloop combines my interests in supply chain management, logistics, sustainability and the circular economy. The team at inloop is currently still small but very dynamic, which enables close collaboration and constant dialogue with colleagues. There is also the opportunity to actively participate in shaping internal topics and contribute your own ideas. The Vienna office also offers a pleasant working atmosphere and has a roof terrace - for the sunnier months.

Has the internship met your expectations so far, and what else would you like to learn?

Since the start of my internship, I have been supporting an ongoing project in the area of Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) and Inventory Management as a member of the project team. I had already been able to gain initial experience in this area during a previous internship, which I can now utilise and deepen. The project is international and we work with a network of contacts  worldwide. I have also gained insight into inloop's service portfolio and other ongoing projects. I'm looking forward to getting to know more projects and deepening my knowledge.

Is there a typical daily routine for you at inloop, and if so, what does it look like?

In a management consultancy, the tasks vary from day to day, which means that the daily routine is never repetitive. In the Vienna office, I greet my colleagues first thing in the morning and we start the day with a coffee or tea together. Regular team meetings and consultations on how to proceed with the project are also on the agenda. Otherwise, I work independently on project-related or internal tasks, since a small team always has a wide range of tasks to complete.

What have you enjoyed most so far?

I particularly appreciate the strong team spirit and the regular team events, such as a winter barbecue and Christmas party. Another plus is the opportunity for interns to take part in external lectures or training courses to deepen their knowledge of supply chain management and sustainability. Internal training courses and knowledge lectures are also offered to promote continuous professional development.

How do you find working in a team, and with management?

The working atmosphere at inloop is relaxed with flat hierarchies, and every colleague is always available for questions and answers. As an intern, you are considered a fully-fledged team member right from the start and are directly integrated into the project work.
